Starbuck Island

Welcome to Starbuck Island!
This atoll is part of the central Line Islands of Kiribati. The island has no fresh water sources and hardly any vegitation. It is also one of the driest atolls in the Line Islands. It is easy to understand why this island is uninhabited! While no human populations exsist on this atoll, it does have a large population of Sooty Terns. About three to six million Sooty Terns call Starbuck Island home. :)

Sooty Terns
Sooty terns (Sterna fuscata) are sea birds that live on islands in tropics. They can live out at sea for 3-10 years. Their main diet contains fish and squid. They breed on rocky or coral island. Their nest is looks like a small scrape in the ground. Below is a picture of a Sooty Tern:
