Sicilian Cuisine - Part Two

Ciao! Welcome to Palermo!
As promised, today we are taking a closer look at the delicous desserts of Sicily. We will focus on what is probably the best known Sicilian dessert--Cannoli.
Cannoli are a popular tube-shaped Sicilian pastry. They were orginally prepared during the Carnival season and given as gifts. Traditionally, they are filled with a blend of ricotta cheese, vanilla, and sugar. Some recipes add chocolate chips, candied fruit, or pistachios to the filling. The result is a lightly sweet crispy shell and a delicous creamy filling.
We knew you'd like to try this pastry yourself, so we found a recipe for cannoli on the link below. If cooking just isn't your thing, cannoli can be found specialty bakeries and in most Italian restaurants.

Did you know...

  • "Cannoli" is plural. The singular form is "cannolo" which means little tube.
  • The name "cannolo" comes from the Latin "canna" meaning reed.
  • Cannoli orginated in right here, in Palermo!

Happy Traveling!
